THE HEART’S DESIRE
RUTS.
Common-place people are content to walk for life in the rut made by their predecessors, long after it has become so deep that they cannot see to the right or left. This keeps them in ignorance and darkness, but it saves them the trouble of thinking or acting for themselves.
A creed is a rod, And a crown is of night; But this tiling is God, To be man with thy might, To grow straight in the strength of thy spirit, And live out they life as the light. —Swinburne.
Every hand is wanted in this world that can do a little genuine, sincere work. —George Eliot. * * * * Seek love in the pity of others’ woe, In the gentle relief of another’s care : In the darkness of night, the winter s snow, With the naked and outcast — Seek love there. —Blake.
