A NEW DEPARTURE,
NEW YORK, March 24,
Airships are now of particular interest in anticipation of the united Atlantic service project. Air craft have hitherto been identified in America only with aeroplanes and accessories, whose subsidiary lines extend from Canada to Mexico and bap Francisco to-Cleveland. The indicated participation of America in the lighter-than-air enterprise shows the belief that the trans-ocoanic traffic must surrender to the lighter-than-air branch of aeronautics.
Commander Eckener tsated :— “This is of particular importance to mo, because it means that the aeroplane and the airship, so long regarded as competitors, are joining in a co-oper-ative enterprise. We already have achieved what might be called moral successes over a long period of time, and those wore necessary, and they gave us the assurance and courage to proceed. Now wq have gone beyond the moral achievement into the held of actufil accomplishment. We are ready to go ahead and complete our studies of the practical problems to be solved ibefore launching the project. The Company has been ..formed. with its capital fully, subscribed and by the end of this year we will liaye completed our studies.”
