BUGG'ESTED APPOINTMENTS,
(Australian Press Association)
(Received this day at 10 a.m.*
SYDNEY, March 25.
Rumours aro current that Sir Adrian Knox (Chief Justice of the High Court) will possibly Ibe the next Gov-ernor-General of Australia. Other names mentioned are Generals Chauval and Monash, also Charlton, a former Federal Labour Party Leader, and Groom?., late Speaker of the House of Representatives. Labour members are ty-ossing for the appointment of an Australian and Knox’s acceptance involving as it would his resignation from the Bench, would be particularly pleasing to a section of the Labour Party. Official 'circles a.t Canberra maintain the strictest se.tccy.
;A message fiom London states the Dominions Office regards the rumour as ridiculous. No name has yet been submitted to tho King nor is it likely to be for some time.
Mr Fenton is of opinion that the time is not ripe for a local appointment, which would be sure to cause heartbi failing.
