Westland Competitions Society.
The Committee of the above met at the County Chambers at 4 p.ni. yesterday. Present; Air D. J. Evans (President), Mi's Fane, Revds. G. Knowles-v Smith, -J. W. Hayward and H. Nelson Wright, Messrs AV. E. Richards, T. W. Dull', and H. Osmers. Apology' was made for the absence' of Mr H. G. Coles.
An. acknowledgement was received from Miss Daly for sympathy expressed in late bereavement.
The President stated letters of condolence bad been sent also to Air E. Moss and Mrs Michel in connection with recent (bereavements. —Action aporoved.
The Secretary tendered an apology on behalf of Father Finerty who wished to retire from the vice-presi-donev. The intimation was received iwitli regret, and- it was resolved to ask the 'Revel. Father to reconsider the matter.
The President reported regarding correspondence in the local press legat'd nig the disposal of the Newman Cup. He stated there was an evident misunderstanding, as it was clear from the minutes of 1926 the trophy was a challenge cup to be hold foi one year by the winners. Ihe trophy had been allocated - after- • ■ the-first four entries had been received from school choirs. The .position had i*gn explained by letter to those affected, but from, - a later letter read at the meeting it • appeared those concerned were not- altogether satisfied. The meeting, diseased the matter further, and the official records were ex’ilainod. Finally, it was -resolved that the misunderstanding which had arisen he greatly regretted,, and the President’s Mtcr he confirmed, the trophies for (both the major (cup) end minor (banner) choral events being on all fours, to be held year by year bv the winner^.
