The- “Times” sent its London correspondent to Oxford, where, at the Radciifl'c Observatory, he interviewed Prof--s,or Jackson, of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Immediately after the recent announcement of tile planet discovery, cabled on March 15th, Processor Jackson wrote an article for tile London “Times,” commending the Lowell Observatory on it.

Professor Jackson, now, however, staled that alter careful consideration, lie believed that the Lowell Observatory nad probably mistaken a minor planet, of which largo numbers can always 'be seen, for a major body. He predicted his doubts, lie said, upon tile failure of Lov.vll Observatory to indicate the position of the planet, it having given to the world scarcely any details beyond the hare announcement, and the fact that the planet had been found not in the position where Professor Lowell 1-ad predicted one would he found. ,

NEW YORK, March 20

The “New York Times” interviewed Professor Shapely, of Harvard University, over the trunk line telephone to-night, and lie said: “There can be no doubt the discovery an-' nounced from Lowell Observatory is fact. Wc have received confirmatory observatoins from Yorkers Observatory. He added: “The new planet, on the international magnitude standard is sixteen. Professor Lowell never claimed that his predieition would he more than an approximation. There has been no haste in the publication or the data from "Lowell Observatory on the planet. That will come later.”
