'The vote as to the trade agreement means leaving the situation as it is until a new Treaty i,s negotiated directly with New Zealand. In the debate it whs urged by the Government supporters that the Government should not cancel lightly an agreement with another British Dominion, and that in making a new Treaty care should lie taken not to endanger interEmpire trade The Treaty was negotiated with a view to tin l welfare of the Empire as a whole and. not in an endeavour to gain a selfish advantage for one party.

The Canadian House of Commons to-night voted in favour of a Liberal sub-amendment to a motion to go into supply, thereby sustaining the Governent’s stand in respect to the present Trade Agreement with New Zealand.
