MOTOR-CYCLIST”S DEATH

WELLINGTON. .March 15

'The circumstances surrounding the death of Arnold Wilfred Parkinson, surveyor, of 57 Moxhain Avenue, Hataitai, wiio was killed on .March sth. through being struck by a motor-lorry, were investigated at an inquest yesterday by Mr T. B. McNeil. S.M. (.Coroner). Parkinson, was riding a motor-cycle down Wellington Rond, Kilhirnic. when he was thrown at a bend and -truck by the lorry which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Alan Campbell Melville, driver of the lorry, stated that he was travelling at about 15 or 20 miles an hour before (he accident happened. He saw the cycle round a bend, and it was skidding and “wobbling” considerably. The rider appeared to have lost control, and then he was thrown right in front of the lorry’s wheels. Witness said he could not pull up in time to avoid striking the man. When he pulled up he ran to the man. hut lie was dead. After hearing evidence from eve-wit-nesses of the accident, who stated it seemed clear that deceased lost control of his machine, the Coroner returned a verdict of “accidental death.

WOMAN ASSAULTED. AUCKLAND. March 20

A visitor from Sydney. Mrs Isa McKay, passing through the Domain on Tuesday afternoon, was violently assaulted by a' mail who sprang out of some hush and robbed her of her liand-laig which contained her return ticket to Sydney and about two pounds in money and some personal belongings. Mrs McKay was in company with Mr E. F. Y\ arren. retired deputy trustee of Auckland at the time, but the assailant was so quick that before Warren could do an.vtliings Mrs McKay was threwiv heavily into a ditch, her clothing torn, and the. man had snatched her handbag and bolted. The matter was reported to the police immediately but so far the assailant has not been traced.

SMALLPOX PATIENT RECOVERS
