VALEDICTORY
Mil W. T. MORPETH EAREWELLED
At the conclusion of the meeting of the Westland Land Board yesterday afternoon the opportunity was taken by members to say farewell to Mr W. T, Morpeth, Commissioner of Crown Lauds, who is retiring Horn the service, and presided at the Land Board meeting for the last time that afternoon.
Mr B. Ward after stating that this was tiie last occasion on which Mr Morpeth would preside at the Board’s meetings lelerred to the retiring Commissioner’s association with the Board, stating that during the speaker’s term of office he was in charge as long as any. other occupier of the position, and his actions for the welfare of the district and the tenants, had always been given to the best of bis ability. He had always worked in the best interests of both the Crown and tenants, and the Crown was indebted to him for his valued services rendered through his long term of service. Mr Ward stressed tlie amicable relations that had always existed between the Commissioner and members of the Board, and he wished him..and Mrs Morpeth, long life and happiness in their future. On behalf o,f the members he asked acceptance as a slight token of their goodwill of a smoker’s outfit.
Mr Clay-ton in endorsing Mr Ward’s remarks congratulated Mr Morpeth on ms retirement, claiming it was no small feat- to have served for 44 years climbing, from the., bottom to the top, and. still to have many years of an active life, before him.
Messrs Ryu 11 and 'Gibb endorsed the remarks of.,the previous speakers, The latter ..regretted that .Mr Morpeth had not had the opportunity of former Commissioners in the opening up of settlement lands.
Mr. 0. J, P. Sellers on behalf of solicitors and land agents extended farewell to Mi; Morpeth, and thanked him lor all.his kindness and wished . him well in the future.
Mr Morpeth replying thanked the Board members for their kind remarks and for their able assistance and consideration given at all times. It had been a pleasure to work with them and to give of His best in the interests of the Crown and Tenants.
