NEW YORK, March 18

At Daytona Beach, Kaye Don, despite an inability to complete the course, due to a fire ip the supercharger, gave a crowd of onlookers a demonstration of exceptional tenacity by continuing in a persistent attempt to try for the record to-day, until his car finally refused to move.

The accumulated petrol and oil beneath the hood, caught fire. A mechanic. ran up immediately and stopped the. fire, : but the supercharger was rendered useless. The casting was broken,- A. ne.w„supercharger will be installed immediately.
