Gandhi is finding the villagers apathetic towards li is disobedience campaign, ..and when he and his 78 volunteers started on the second day’s trek, none were present to give him a send oil’, liis appeal for volunteers is falling flat. He made only one recruit.
Hitherto the,Government lias shown no intention of hindering Gandhi’s progress to .)alalapore. They have made arrangements for the preservation oi order along the route, posting military in places which are considered dangerous.

Shimyari tribesmen concerned in the ''eeenfc revolt in .Afghanistan have accepted all the Government demands after a three day conference .and have agreed to return the arms which were looted at Lorkham and pay'tire land revenue and tire fine of £IO,OOO. Five ring leaders have been -executed, having been blown from the mouth of guns.
The Jalalbad tribal territory is being occupied by thirteen thousand troops.
POLITICAL MURDERS
DELHI,' March 14
A statement revealing the existence of a widespread conspiracy for political murders in India is alleged to have been made bv Sherjiing, the notorious Ibrigand of the Punjab, v.bo surrendered to tire Ambala police on a charge of a. train robbery. »%<herjung’.s relatives at Jullundur are stated to have given a clue to the perpetrators of tire bomb outrage on the Viceroy’s train on December 23. Eleven men have been arrested at .Tnllundur. Two bonilbs were found in the house of one of tire accused.
EARTHQUAKE AT KARACHI
DELHI, March 14
Severe earth tremors were experienced at Karachi early yesteidat. People were flung from their beds, and rushed panic stricken from then homes. Heqvy damage was done to buildings.
