The lure of the “talkies” was responsible for another good house at the Princess Theatre last night, when Everybody’s Pictures presented a complete change of programme headed by the American mystery play of high repute, “The Donovan Affair,” The mystery dealt with a double murder Under peculiar circumstances, and the unravelling of the problem by the American detectives. The representatives of the Jaw in the United States according to most plays of a similar character, seem to delight in applying “the third degree,” and in the Donovan picture this procedure is well worked. The play has many tense moments as the climax is reached, and is of that class which holds the auditors to its close. in addition to the presentation of this play which has had a notable career in America, the programme included another diverting section of the weekly serial, an amusing comedy picture, and a clever “Ivat” comedy with the accompanying sounds synchronised. The programme was a well varied one, popularly' received, and will be repeated again to-night.

In the proposals to increase the power development from Lake Ivanieri, tiie Kameri Electric Ltd. will install a fresh power station above Johnston’s Flume, on. the present line o- race from Lake Kanieri. This plant will be installed • after the McKay’s Creek plant is in operation. The present plant at Kanieri Forks will be utilised for the ..pur-" pose, being first reconditioned, and this plant will be used solely for the / town supply of electric light and power, thus ensuring a steady and adequate supply. When this plant is running the lower portion of the existing water race from Johnston’s Flume to the present penstock at the Forks will be abandoned probably, and one suggestion is that as an auxiliary supply the. Borough Council should acquire the race, and as tunnels are involved, lay a line of pipes for the distance, a little over three-quarters of a mile, to reach the auxiliary supply pipe line now taking water from the penstock', lit is interesting to note that the water which will be used as the driving force for the station at Johnston’s Flume, will travel from the Lake by the existing water race, after use be discharged into the Kanieri river, and picked up again at Coal Creek to augment the power supply for McKay’s Creek. It is expected the McKay’s Creek plant will be running in about eighteen months, at the latest. The wnole of the works will shortly be in full swing, a large amount of preliminary work already being finished.
