SYDNEY, March 13

The response to._ the coal owners’ appeal for miners for idle pits "'ll not bo known for a few days, as tlie applications are requested to 'be in writing.

At thirty-four associated pits on tlie Northern field, a call for labour is being made, although there is little hope that the owners’ offer will meet with any great response. The decision to re-open the mines was the outcome of a meeting of the owners’ representatives on Tuesday, following the failure of tlie parties to reach an agreement at Monday’s conference.

Air D. J. Davies, Secretary of the Miners’ Ive.dei-tion, stated that ho w:is conviiuied .'that few, if any of the members of his organisation will break away front': their undertaking to decline wm;k. ‘except at the pre-stoppage rates of pay.
