KICKED TO DEATH

THAMES, March 14

A young man, William Knox, 26, s a farm hand a Waitakaruru was kicked to death by a trotting horse which lie was driving near Kopu yesterday. Knox harnessed up a. four-year old trotter, the property of Sam AVoodroofe, and was taking it out for exercise. The horse bolted and Knox was thrown forward on the horse’s heels, which inflicted a terrible injury to his bead and face. Knox was sent to the hospital, but died this morning.

CHILD KILLED. HASTINGS, March 14. Suzanne Couper, the nine year old daughted of Mr M. A. Couper, of Otane, was killed yesterday afternoon owing to her pony bolting and throwing her heavily.

PETROL STORAGE CHARGE

AUCKLAND, March 14

The first prosecution of this kina in Auckland, was Ibrought by the Chief Inspector of Dangerous Goods at' the Police Court against Raymond Wilfred Clare, of keeping or storing in pumps and tanks in a garage at Panmure 805 gallons of petrol. Defendant pleaded guilty. The Inspector said he did not press for a heavy fine. He wanted to warn owners.

The Bench /imposed a nominal fine of 10s hut also forfeited the pumps and tanks. Eight of the pumps were owned by Proprietory Coys, who had not taken out licenses for them.

DIRECTORS RE-APPOINTED

WELLINGTON, March H

Sir Joseph Ward announced to-day that Sir H. Beauchamp (Wellington), and Mr Oliver Nicolson (Auckland) whose terms of directors of the Bank of New Zealand expires on 31st of March have been reappointed by the Administrator of the Dominion (Sir M. Myers) for a further term of three years.
