(Received this day at 11 a.m., SHANGHAI, March 11
An international incident will probably arise as a consequence ot unwarranted and insulting remarks addressed by the provincial Court Judge, Yang Clmo Lung, a newly appointed youthful member of the Chinese judiciary, to a lawyer, Blumfield Brown, a prominent British practitioner and member of one of the oldest legal firms. At a civil hearing Yang called Brown dull witted, dishonest, clumsy and foolish, causing the British Consular Deputy Herbert, who is still eligible to preside at the Provincial Court pending the commencement of a new agreement, to instantly vacate the Bench following a carefully repeated translation of the Judge’s remarks. The incident is regarded locally'ns an unhappy augury to the future success of the Provincial Court.
Herbert is officially reporting the incident and Yang declares he is ..early to fight Brown to the finish.
