an. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.

MOTION OF SYMPATHY

The Chairman referred to the death of Hon. H. 1.. Michel and moved that the Board place oil record its appreciation of his past services as a member of the Boa id, and convey to Mrs ■Michel and family their deepest sympathy. Carried in silence, members standing.

From Dr Valintine in reference to holiday arrangements for nurses.— Received. From Department of Health, Wellington, appreciating the valued services of Dr Baird, and approving of Dr Hopkins as his successor; and regretting the death of Matron Lloyd. —Received.

From National Provident Fund in regard to a deceased estate. —Received and attended to.

From A. Hopkins, acknowledging letter of appointment as medical superintendent ,of Westland Hospital.— .(evolved.

From Grey Hospital Board, in reference to payment for Timber Workers’ Association.—Received. , From Westland County Council stating a successor to the late Dir E. A. Wells woujd be appointed at the next mcoting,—Recei ved.

From Kuxnara Borough Council in regard to purchase of an ambulance, and stating no funds wore available towards that purpose.-—Received. From Miss I). A. Strongman notifying arrival on 11 th March.—Received.

From J. S. Langford, Westland Power Board, asking permission to cross hospital ground with a power line.—Received. Mr Davidson moved the request ho granted. Seconded by Dir Duff and carried. It was resolved to endeavour to arrange I' i-r a supply of slides to be shown at the proposed public meeting, the Chairman and Secretary to endeavour to obtain assistance of l)r Teicbelmann for screening same.

REPORTS

From Surgeon Superintendent reporting patients in hospital on Ist February numbered 33. Admitted during February 31 males, 18 females. Total treated 55 males, 30 females 85. Discharged cured 31 m: les, 15 females, died 2 males. Total discharged 33 males, 15 females.—lß. Remaining in hospital 28th February 22 males, .15 females.—37. In hospital for two months, 5 males, 3 females. —B. — R oce i ved. Accounts amount ing to €412 Is ! d were passed for payment.

A discussion took place on the subject of the admission of Friendly S cieiies to the benefits of treatment at Westland Hospital on the same lines as t'le Timber Workers, it bein' urged that the three Friendly So - ieties combine and that all matters be dealt with through the Druids

Lodge. After a lengthy discussion Air Duff moved that the agreement submitted be accepted and that as soon as the Friendly Societies notify the list of members who wish to participate, the Board agrees to the proposed agreement to come into force. Payments to he made quarterly, the Druids Lodge of Hokitika to he the executive lodge. Seconded by the 'Chairman. Mr Flco'd: moved an amendment that a sub-committee consisting of the flnirnian. Messrs Davidson, Duff and .Mover he appointed to confer with representatives of Friendly Societies and submit a definite agreement the town members of the Board to confirm same. Seconded by Air Timer.

The motion was withdrawn and the amendment becoming the motion was agreed to.

The House Committee reported conditions satisfactory. -Received. The Treasure! 1 reported ngoip's £389 16s 9d, payments £1034 8s Go. credit balance £567 Os 3d.—•'Received.

The next meeting was lixed f l l April 7th. The Board rose at 10.10 p.m.
