SOLDIERS’ GRAVES
BODIES REBURIED
[United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.]
(Received this dav at 9. a.m.) LONDON, March 9
Four hundred and eighty bodies of British and Dominion soldiers, including 128 Australians and 35 New Zealanders have been removed from the war cemetery at Ploegsteert, Belgium, and reinterred half a mile away. The “Sunday Times” says, the owner of the original burial place wishing to rebuild his home objected to the cemetery within his grounds as detracting from the amenities of his property. He refused to sell the land. This is the only case out of 462 war cemeteries in Belgium where any difficulty has arisen."'
The High Commissioners, in full knowledge of the regrettable situation, approved of the exhumation and reburial, which was accomplished with the utmost care and reverence.
