YOUTH POSES AS PROFESSIONAL BOXER,

The story of a youth who represented himself as a professional boxer, for the purpose of obtaining money from two acquaintances, was tokl at the Onehunga Police Court when Sydney Gordon Ross, aged 20, was charged with .fraudulently obtaining £9 10s from Albert Waters, and £5 from Trank Waters. Accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant) O’Neill said that complainants came to Onehunga about two months ago, on a visit from Port Waikailot. They .met accused, who frequently boasted to them of his prowess as a boxer. He told them that the Te Awamutu Boxing Association had engaged him to fight for a cup, a medal, and a purse of £4O, and invited them to accompany him. He asked them for some money to hack himself and to pay expenses. Complainants gave him £l4 10s. On the following day accused went to a race meeting and spent the money. "When, he was accosted by complainants on the day of the supposed fight, he told them that he had injured his hand, and that the contest was postponed. They waited in vain for further word from him. and eventually put the matter in the hands of the police.
