Progress in pulverised coal apparatus for ships’ boilers, was marked by toe Hororata’s departure for New Zealand with all except one boiler fired by tins automatic process'. She has already made two journeys with half her boilers heated by pulverised coal. It is now hoped five will do the work of six boilers. She- will need twelve fewer stokers. It is estimated the new system will save £SOOO annually.
