ion of New Zealand at the British Empire Games to be held at Hamilton (Canada) in August, was discussed nt a further meeting of the Empire Game Committee last evening.

Mr A. Tracy presided. The New Zealanders are scheduled to leave Auckland by the Aorangi on July 1. returning from Sail Francisco by the Tahiti on September 3 and reaching Wellington on September 22. It is estimated the travelling expenses would total £llO for each representative. .Mr A. 1). Bayfield said lie fejt confident the Dominion Rowing eight would be worthy of its place with representatives and it would have every chance of .success. It is probable the New Zealand eight would be announced after the regatta at Auckland on March 22.

STOP WORK MEETING. WELLINGTON, .March 7

The stoppage of work at Tara Flat was not a strike. It was decided to hold a stop work meeting to discuss conditions under which the men are working and as three shiifts are running, the stoppage was from mid-night to mid-night. As u result of the deliberations it was decided that a deputation should endeavour to meet the Public Works Minister on his return from the north next week and place the men’s grievances before him.

A FIRE

WHATv ATAXF. March 7

A fire occurred early tin’s morning in premises owned by L. Buddie and occupied by L. Running (electrician), and Buddie and Otlev (solicitors). The outbreak started in Bmining’s shop which was completely gutted, but most of the stock bad been removed to new premises. A good deal of damage was done to Buddie and Otley’s premises by fire and water. The fire was quickly subdued by the Brigade. Buddie is insured for £IOOO in the British Traders’ Office, and contents of Buddie and Otley £IOO in South British Office.

Two racing motor cycles in Bunning’s were destroyed. Insurance is not vet known.
