Tbe a.s Moa arrived from Wellington yesterday at 2.30 p.m. Unloading was not commenced yesterday, a.s a mark of respect to the late Hon. H. L. Michel. The vessel is expected to sail for Wellington on Saturday afternoon.

Mr C. W. Jggo, representative for the Singer Sewing Machine Coy., gives a general invitation to all interested to witness a special demonstration of this new electric machine that he is giving at Messrs O’Connell and Gillian’s shop, Revell St, all day and evening on Saturday next.

That there is a danger in sea bathing at present is evidenced by further reports this week of sharks being seen close in daring the smooth weather. One large fish, about nine feet in length, was hooked and played successfully for a time and brought close in, but in a final struggle' broke away and escaped with part of the line.

Local fishermen report that brown trout particularly are very plentiful in the Arahura river. One enthusiastic fishermen secured nine fish this week, two being rainbow trout, ond the aggregate was 351bs. This successful fishing was done in the upper readies of the river.

A wheat yield which • constitutes a record this season for a farm as a whole, is reported from Lincoln. Mr Jas Payne, Walsingham farm, supplies details of his yields as follows:—-Two paddocks of Hunters yielded 70 bushels to the acre; one of Hunters just over 80 bushels to the acre; one of Tuscan 83 bushels. Ail average of 75 bushels was obtained.

To-morrow commencing at 11 o’clock a monster jumble sale will he held at Keller’s Sample rooms Weld Street, when the Kokntahi-Koiterangi Winter Show committee will have on sale a splendid variety of goods. These will include hams and bacon, lamb, poultry, fruit, vegetables, farm produce / and home coockery. A very large display will be made, the object being to secure funds to enable permanent tea rooms to be erected for next Winter Show,

. At n snecial meeting of the Trustees of the Hokitika Savings Bank last evening, Mr G. A, Perry, presiding as Deputy Chairman, referred to the demise of Hon. H. L. Michel, the Bank’s President. Mr Perry went on to refer to Mr Michel’s long public car’-iee since the early pioneer days, and the value of his citizenship. At Unit Board they would remember Mr Michel because of his urbanity, and the desire always to cultivate the best relations, and to proceed unanimously with the business. Mr Michel had been tactful and courteous, and gave vorv patient and painstaking attention to the Bank’s affairs. H.e moved that a record be made of his public services and his honourable career, and that the sympathy of the I rusteos as a body be conveyed to Mrs Michel and family. Mr J. D. Lynch, as the senior Trustee, seconded the motion, and endorsed the mover’s remarks which were carried, the Trustees standing. On the motion of Mr Williams seconded bv Dr Teichelmann, -Air G. A. Perry was elected President of the Bank; and on the motion of Mr D. J. Evans seconded by Mr C. Evans, Mr W. E. Williams was elected Deputy Chairman.

The Seddonville Bowling Club was officially opened on Saturday afternoon Players'and visitors from all ports of the district took advantage of the lovely day and journeyed to Seddonville. The opening was rather late in the season, hut the president, Air J. Niven explained that the green had been covered with silt from the recent flood, and they had decided to wait until the turf had recovered.

A good attendance of ladies and gentleman met recently to make prenmary arrangements tor the Piunket Society’s Ball which is to take place in the Soldiers Hall on the 2dth March Strong working committees were set up and from the interest shown the event should prove a highly successful and enjoyable one, A further meeting will be held on Wednesday March 19th to complete final arrangements.

Air Frank Munson whose death at Wellington hospital was recorded in yesterday telegrams, was member of a well-known Westport family. Deceased had followed a journalistic career. At one time he was the owner and publisher of the “Buller Miner.” For a number of years he .published a paper on the liner “lonic,” and lately was on the staff of the “Dominion.” Air B.
