FRENCH POLITICS

UPROAR IN CHAMBER

baited Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.]

PARIS, March 5

A prolonged uproar, probably unprev dented even in the history of the French Chamber, marked the first appearance of M. Tardieu’s new Cabinet. The Chamber was as packed as when -M. Chautemps presided over the i Government, but whereas then, Tardieu received an ovation lie entered to-day almost unobserved. It was Chautemps’ turn to Ire greeted with cheers.

Tardieu quickly went to the Tribune to deliver the Government’s declaration of its policy, but he had not time to finish the first sentence before the storm broke- and every few words the Premier uttered were met with derision and comment from the opposition.

Those unwilling t-o hear, even brief snatches of the speech, 'hanged the desks and drowned his voice which became tired.

Indiscriminate beating started into rvthmetica! knocks, tattoo style, while the President of the Chamber, in an effort to res! ore order, rtnrr a be' violently. He banged t’ , e ruler mv •• his own desk and .shouted, gesticulated, scolded and coaxed members. Unfortunately the Co-mnment’s supporters began counter demonstrations and t-he President gave up the contest. Socialist voices began to fall so they sot up a low concentrated chanting.
