BIG GARAGE FIRE
AT PALMERSTON NORTH

PAL.M ERSTON NORTH, March 6
A disastrous fire broke out in the Ford Motor Coy’s large garage in langikitu and Cuba Streets this evening. Although the front portion of the building was not seriously. damaged. the large rear garages and workshops were gutted. The ••■'fire was most spectacular. A sensation was caused by the loud explosion of an acetone welding gas container, the windows in blie vicinity being broken. Six new and fifteen second-hand ears were destroyed, also a number of others garaged for different owners. J. Reid, garage worker who discovered the outbreak, was very badly burned on the left hand. Details of the loss are unavailable to-night. LATER.
ft is reported that 27 second hand and seven new cars were destroyed. The water pressure was only oOlbs. I alter it dropped to 261bs at midnight when the blaze was completely under control.
