TRAGEDY FEARED
FISHING BOAT MISSING
By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright
INVERCARGILL, March 5
Advice was received tho Sergeant of Police, at Bluff to-day of the loss of the fishing boat Marraroa, owned by the Bluff Fish and Oyster Coy. while • engaged in fishing off Smoky Point, at 8 o’clock this morning. It is feared that the two men on hoard. Thomas Clark and John West, have been drowned, as it is too rough in the strait for any small vessel to make a search.. The Marraroa was considered to be a very seaworthy craft, and she was ketch rigged, and had an auxiliary engine.
ft is reported from Stewart Island that three fishing boats wore running for- shelter at the time, and one of them noticed that the Marraroa had disappeared. This boat immediately turned and cruised round the spot for some time fruitlessly, and finally had to leave the dangerous spot.
Boats will return to search as soon ns the gale moderates.
