CHILD’S DEATH
FOLLOWING AN OPERATION
By Telegraph, Per Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, March 5,
Dorothy Florence Henderson, aged six, died at Wellington Hospital, following an operation for the removal off septic tonsils and adenoids on February -pojb and at the inquest to-day, in his report on the post mortem examination of deceased. Dr Lynch said that he was of opinion that, in the case of this otherwise healthy child the condition of “status lymphaticus,” well known ter its sudden and unexpected fatal influence, was a most important factor in death.
‘Tt has been frequently noted,” added Dr Lynch, -that this condition of status lymphaticus is an important factor in unexpected death. Bv no method of examination can its presence be detected during life. I consider the shock of the operation and the anaesthetic were undoubtedly factors in the casualty. There was a complete absence of any operation or post-oper-ation accident which might lead to haemorrhage or choking.”
The Coroner (Mr T. B. M. Neil, S.M.) returned a verdict that the cause of death was status lymphaticus, aceentuated by the shock of the opera tion and anaesthetic.
