COMBINE’S PLAN
EMPIRE COMMUNICATIONS. LONDON, February 28. A letter lias been sent to the Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald, regretting the Governments decision not to use their company's beam stations for overseas telephony, by the ‘lmperial and International Communications Company. They also appeal for a re-examination of the whole question of Select Committee. Tlie company points out that a wireless cable conference, appointed at the instance of Canada and Australia in 1928, recommended the British Office to agree to the Communications Company on the terms upon which the Company’s stations could be used by telephony company. The Company contends that if it is to be exposed to competition by overseas telephony services wherein it is not to be allowed , to participate, a blow will be struck at the whole process of the rationalisation of their industry. The Company reiterates its willingness to avoid by the working of a comparision between its system and the British Post Office’s system between British South Africa, with Canada, or Tndia, and Australia, as soon as the necessary equipment is provided. Tt also urges that, in the interests off the efficiency of Empire communications and in Justice to those investors who have shown a belief in the rationalisation of Imperial Communications, the evidence submitted to the Cabinet Committee should be published and also that a further enquiry be held.
