ESCAPEE RECAPTURED. (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 4. Leonard Stanford, a prisoner who escaped from Long Bay gaol on Saturday, was recaptured at Surrey Hills. Stanford left his hiding place on Sunday night to go to Church with his wife and he was recognised late last night. After an exciting chase, the escapee was caught. His wife was also arrested. A SHOCKING DEATH. SYDNEY, March 4. Hurtling down a light area at the rear of Cuhvulla Chambers, in the city, an unknown man met a terrible death. Practically every hone in his body was broken. Mis face and head are unrecognisable. Where lie landed, the flooring is broken through. The victim tell from -the eleventh floor, hit rails on the tenth and crashed on the second floor landing.
COW KILLED. SYDNEY, March 4. ■' During a terrific thunderstorm at Gundagai, a fireball landed on tfife back of a valuable cow, which was incinerated. A grass fire was also started but was extinguished. AUSTRALIAN FLOODS. ADELAIDE, March 4. Over twenty inches of rain has fallen in Tennants Creek district. Central Australia, since last Wednesday. It is still raining. The creek which is usually a small stream is now three miles wide. The water, however lias not yet reached the telegraph posts. In some places the flood waters are feet deep. Heavy rain Fell at Forrest. The aerodrome is under water. The booking of train berths to Perth is snspen ded.
