REASON OF RECALL

DISPLEASED WITH STATEMENTS. i (Australian Press Association; CANBERRA, Feb. 27. • It is understood the recall of Mr Haynes, (Australian Trade Goimnis. sioner in’ Canada) is due to'a Statement made by him in October last y.ar, relative to industrial conditions in the Cornmonvoalth. This, though prior to the election while the Bruce •Government was (stilt( in Office,: ”ap-i pears' to have displeased tlie present ; Ministry. rl "_ A ’cable from Toronto dated October 11th reported that Haynes in an interview said lie was not surprised that H. V. McKay, Proprietary Lt.d.., a Victorian Company, intended .to establish business, in. Canada, for. the ' manufacture o>f harvesters. Dohad been impressed' by the inducements offered., in Canada for manufactures- land the. relations between’ labour and capital, appeared to ‘-be very different from those in Australia. It Was stated lie quoted figures showing .that proportionally to population, the. Canadian workman lost less than one- hour through industrial disputes, compared with,- ten thousand lost in Australia. . The Federal Ministry, it is believed,, considers such a statement .bv one I of its trade commi-sioners, most likely J to damage Australian credit abroad, j It is understood Cabinet has given no consideration yet to the position of trade commi -.sioner for Now York. VANCOUVER, Feb. 26. There is widespread astonishment in Canada over the cabled reports that Haynes has been recalled. It is considered that Australia has suffered severely for many years through having no official representative in the Dominion to furnish information in response to the big volume of inquiries whereas New Zealand has had an.'nble agent here for twenty-five years, and is now sending a commissioner to open up in Toronto, thereby having two administrative officials in j Canada.
