WESTLAND COUNTY ELECTION

CENTRAL RIDING

The bve-election for the Westland County Council caused by the death of E. A. Wells, took place yesterday. There were nine polling booths, and there was fair voting. A total of 425 votes were accounted for yesterday, as against 452 at the general election ot' members i' May last. It will be seen from the figures below, that Mr Harry Wells of Woodstock, son of the late member, was returned. Messrs Jamieson and O’Neil polled well, but being both sett dors in the same district, naturally led to a dividing of the votes. * Mr Jamieson in the circumstances, polled well, being only 24 votes behind y the leading candidate. The returns' were received in good time, the final result being posted shortly after seven o’clock. The scrutiny of the rolls takes place to-morrow forenoon, when there will be also the official count, and the counting of declaration votes, which still have to lie dealt with.
