COMMITTEE OF COVENANT. (Official Wireless.) (Received this day at LI. a.m., RUGBY, Feb. 24. Lord Cecil will represent Britain on the Committee of Covenant meeting today at Geneva, to consider steps necessary for the bringing of the Covenant of the League of Nations into conformity with the, Paris. Pact, for the renunciation of,.war. The Committee was appointed at the last assembly, at the request of the British Government to consider articles of the Covenant which conflict'with, the Pact,, and those which directly or indirectly imply- .that in certain circumstances, State members may resort .to war. Specific amendments to- Articles 12, 13 and 15 of pile Covenant have been submitted for consideration of «the Committee, wlnch, however, retains the widest possible, terms of. dealing with the subject, which presents, many difficulties.'

TARIFF TRUCE SETBACK

GENEVA, Feb. 24

The Tariff Truce Conference received a further set-back by Japan’s refusal to announce the acceptance of the scheme. Yoshina said while Japan was favourable to a truce, she did not see how could accede to the proposed convention in vieW'- of the abstention of ‘China, United States, India'and Australia.
