UNEMPLOYMENT
SPECIAL COMMITTEE'S REPORT. (By Telegraph--Press Association). WELLINGTON, Feb'. 25. The second and final report of the Special Committee appointed by the Government to investigate the problem of unemployment- was released for publication to-day b-,- the Hon. W. A. Ve>tc!i. ' ■ ' The report is a voluminous document which shows members of the C>niir.it tec have gone very deeply into the subject as it applies particularly to conditions in New Zealand. 1 he setting up of a, permanent Employment Board is suggested.
Numerous recommendations are made to function.
The most valuable section of tiie report proposes tho institution of a permanent employment and sustenance fund contributed annually by all persons over.eighteen, as well a.s comp uiies, local bodies, etc., and providing the Bmird with the sum of £700,000 annually out- of which to make sustenance payments. Otheiwise, tile Board will have power to make arrangements for placing unemployed workers in jobs. The functions of the Board are outlined broadly and generally, and the Committee points out that much must be left to tho Board to decide ns experience is gained,
The view is taken, that it is everybody’s- duty to assist in, overcoming the evil of unemployment and that it therefore evolves cn everyone to contribute towards its relief.
