N.S.W. CABINET
DOLE PAYMENT STOPPED. (Australian ‘Press Association). (Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 23. The State, Cabinet lias decided to cease payment of the dole to miners and dependents, also to withdraw the offer of 2s per ton remission of government charges in transport of coal, and to summon immediately a further conference of all parties to renew negotiations for a resumption. It is not indicated that relief will be stopped forthwith, but Premier Bavin has issued a warning that payment cannot continue indefinitely. If an agreement is reached between the parties, the Government will be prepared to assist the coal industry by making a reasonable reduction in transport charges. The Government proposes to seek co-operation of employers and employees in attempting to -solve the problems, including financial and economic, now facing tiro coal industry. Cabinet made the above decisions after considering the financial and industrial position, which is reflected in unprecedented unemployment throughout the Commonwealth.
