BIG BLAZE

IN SYDNEY SUBURB

FLAME'S RISE 100 FEET.

(Australian Press Association)

SYDNEY, Feb. 20

A fire which caused damage of £60,000 was responsible for many dramatic incidents at Camper down, a suburb, to-day, when the Kilner Ferns Company’s large furniture store was gutted, with a tremendous quantity of furniture belonging to one hundred private owners. The flames were one hundred feet high, and there were repeated explosions. Fusing electric wires, and terrific heat kept a huge crowd of onlookers at bay. The firemen had a gruelling time, and there were narrow escapes from injury. The occupants of the adjoining buildings were driven out three hours before'the blaze was under control. Its origin is unknown.
