NEW SPEED RECORD

KAYE DON’S ATTEMPT

REMARKABLE MOTOR-CAR

(British Official Wireless.)

RUGBY, Feb. 1G

The motorist, Kaye Don, is leaving London for Daytona, Florida, next wees, in preparation for an attempt to beat the existing world’s land speed record of 231 miles an hour, hold by .Sir Henry Segrave. Don is extremely satisfied with the Silver Bullet car specially constructed a the Sunbeam Works, Wolverhampton, for .the attempt. It is remarkably designed, among its features being an air brake, resembling an aeroplane rudder, with which the car will be slowed down before the ordinary brakes are applied, thus reducing the skid danger. It also has an ice-tank through which the vvatbr will pass to prevent overheating. The car has two twelve-cyclinder engines running at the remarkable rate of 40CO revolutions a minute. Each engine weighs less than 10001 b. yet each develops 2COO horse power, an engineering achievement never before equalled. Don says that beach tests show that the car can do, 275 miles an hour, but he expects to lose twenty-five miles an hour, and will'he sat’sfied with 240 or 250 miles at Daytona.
