The Government was defeated in the Chamber by 28(i votes to 281 on the question of confidence, and has resigned.
DISTURBED CONDITIONS RULING HONG KONG, Feb. 17.
Disturbed conditions are again, ruling on South China, owing to the amalgamation of Iywansi rebels with Chang Fat Kweis Ironsides, who threatens an invasion of Kwangtung.
The Cantonese claim victories and that the capture of the rebels’ beadquarters is imminent, but the situation is uncertain.

The “Times” correspondent states a unique honour was conferred °n a centenarian farm labourer, Joseph Zalewski, aged 108 years, who was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. The citation states; “Starting work on a farm, aged ten, be had remained on native soil evoi since and even now works in the fields with his great grandchildren.” FOREIGN EXCHANGE, MONTREAL, February 17. MORE UNEMPLOYED. ENGLAND’S WORK PROBLEM. LONDON, Feb. 17. In the House of Commons during a debate on the Bill for authorising the London Underground Railway Companies to spend twelve millions steiling upon new works and improvements, Mr Cliarleton and other Labour members moved the rejection of the Bill, on the ground that the London tube railway companies require their employees, on promotion to supervisory rank, to give up their trade union membership. lit. Hon. J. H. Thomas, while sympathising with the Trade Union case, made an urgent plea to the house to facilitate the passage of the measme owing to the serious position of the country’s trade. He said the next unemployment figures would show an increase of eleven thousand unemployed. Railway work would he a valuable contribution to easing this unemployment. Mr Charleton then withdrew his motion, and the Bill was read the second time.
