REFORMING THE UPPER HOUSE
NEW SOUTH WALES MOVE
(Australian Press Association)
SYDNEY, Fob. 13,
The State Legislative Assembly in committee to-night, agreed to the referendum lor, May 3rd for tho reform of the Legislative! Council. The Labour members sought to have the referendum put off until the general election at the end of tho year, and thus save a considerable sum of money. The* Premier, however, was afraid Labour, if then returned, an attempt would be rnado to . abolish the Upper House altogether, as was tried some years ago by Mr Laing. In to-night’s division, the voting was equal, the Government being victorious only by means of the casting vote of the Chairman of the Committee.
