The Chinese Government has issued orders suspending the clearance of all Chinese coastal vessels from Shanghai for a period of two days. The customs are accordingly bolding up papers allowing only three ships to clear. The reason for this astonishing move is at present not clear It is believed it presages an outbreak of hostilities against Henhsishan, necessitating the transfer oi large bodies of troops up the Yangtse river.
