AIR LINER CRASHES

TWO KILLED,

LONDON, Feb. 10,

Two were killed and three injured when a French air union plane made a forced landing at Kent and • burst into flames as a result of an explosion of spirit. The air liner was caught in a blinding snow storm. The pilot attempted to land an at auxiliary aerodrome near Marden, when the engine stalled and the plane nosedived striking the ground with great force. It was immediatey enveloped in fire and soon became a mass of glowing metal. Two passengers were trapped and jammed against the engine and were burned to deathi LONDON, Feb. 10. The pilot of the plane which crashed at Marden emergency ground was thrown clear and escaped with severe injuries. One of the victims who was burned to death was ' a woman. AN AIR SERVICE. LONDON, Feb. 10. A message from Australia suggests Mr Scullin is awaiting the British indication of the Commonwealth’s probable share in tiie cost of a regular aeroplane service to Australia. According to London air circles, the Anglo-Australian negotiations reached a. decisive stage before Mr Scullin assumed office, but lapsed pending his statement of a policy.

Captain Chichester’s reception was one of a most enthusiastic nature. Alter the reception by the Mayor and the President of the Aero Club at the steamer, he was taken at the head of a procession with the plane at the tail, to the Town Hall where a civic welcome was extended.

Apologies were read from Sr .lospeli Ward, and Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. Sir Joseph Ward congratulateed the airman on his great achievement, and expressed the hope he would meet him personally. Hon. Taverner, who represented the Government, said that by bis personal efforts Mr Chichester bad enabled commercial, civil aviation to be embarked upon with confidence. Captain Chichester replied very briefly, thanking them deeply for the welcome, and hoping to have an opportunity of making a trip again, and doing better.
