SPANISH POLITICS

REPUBLIC ADVOCATED.

United Press Aesociation—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

MADRID. Feb. 9

Out of the involved political situation comes a somewhat startling suggestion by Count Romanoes, the Liberal Loader and a former Prime Minister. It is that Spurn should bo a republic with King Alfonso ns its President for his lifetime.

Meanwhile, the Radicals, Republicans and Socialists have issued a joint manifesto advocating a republic. They appeal to the Liberals to rally to this movement, and to prepare for the day when universal suffrage will place power in their hands.

Inasmuch as that the document is signed by prominent men, especially professional and commercial men, it may be regarded as an important symptom 'as to present affairs. •On 'top of this, however, Senor Cam bo, a distinguished economist, wlio had been expected to be the new Finance Minister, has issued a statement that the days of political parties are over. He warns the people that if Parliament assembles before the present Government has clearejl up any disorder left by the Dictator, there will be chaos.
