DUNEDIN, Feb. 10,

In sentencing the motorist, Daniel Craig Miller Andrews, aged 33, married, to six months’ imprisonment for causing actual bodily harm, under circumstances that if death had resulted, accused would have been guilty of manslaughter, Justice Kennedy said the accused had run down a cyclist while in a stale of intoxication, and had driven an unlighted car on the wrong side. He was fortunate that the death of the evelist did not result from his negligence. Accused was also disqualified Jroin obtaining a license for three years.

George McGavin O'kane, a young man, tor negligently driving a motor, causing the death ot Stanley Otruuui, motor cyclist at Roxburgh, was sentenced to n.lie months’ imprisonment. The Judge- took into account the tact that the jury considered negligence was due to over fatigue. There Vfas, however, no need lor accused to be on tiie road at all after having spent an evening 'in festivity. .Ho had also narrowly escaped collision with another car. In a spot well lighted, accused ran down a cyclist, and left him at the side of the road with his own tyre punctured and mud guards dented. Accused’s statement next morning created more than suspicion. He was ooniscions of the collision. Accused was also disqualified front obtaining a license for three years.

Other prisoners sentenced were: Daniel Boyce, aged 57, indecent act, six months’ imprisonment; Charles Free, an elderly man, for indecently assaulting a girl under 12, 18 months’ imprisonment ; Campbell Dore and 1\ illiam Alexander Robertson, breaking and entering by night, and theft, each to two years’ reformative.
