All Ministers accept the view that the so-called rationalisation in industry is inevitable. and some contend it is the business of the Government, not the hanks, to plan and direct the general process for .the attainment of that end. This has induced them to submit suggestions for the formulaion of what they describe as a long term industrial policy. Furthermore Mr Thomas has repeatedly declared that hopes for an industrial Revival must he based on increased 'export. Others express doubts as to such trade development in view of the increasing industrialisation in overseas countries, which formerly were Britain’s customers. They urge immediate steps to relieve the situation, which would involve a development load. A memorandum upon this proposal is now being considered by a committee consisting of Messrs Snowden, Greenwood. Shaw and Miss Bondfield,
