(Australian Press Association)

(Received this day at 8 n.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 7

Among those at the wharf were Dr Purdy and H. L. Havvatt. In a parting word, Chichester said:—l would have liked to have flown across the Tasman to the Dominion and so finished the job. I hope to attempt the task later. Meanwhile lie would resume his ordinary avocation in New Zealand. He expressed gratitude at the overwhelming kindness of the Australian people ever since his arrival at Darwin.

Chichester’s aeroplane is aboard the Maunganui among the deck cargo aft. Hinging cheers were given, and when the vessel began to move away a wealth of coloured streamers broke and became tangled, most of them in the hands of the brave airman and hosts of admirers. 1
