LONDON, February 6
The wireless operator aboard the steamer Melville in the Antarctic, has received reports from Deception Island to the effect that continuous attempts to communicate with Sir H. Wilkins have failed.
There is now the idea of sending a whaler to search for Wilkin’s’ steamer, the ‘John S. Scoresby.”
The steamer Melville \s unable to proceed on a search except in a dire emergency, because the safety of If/' men on the whaling stations, depends upon her. The last message from the steamer “John S. Scoresby” was received eigh-; days ago.
