MARKETING OPERATIONS

(Australian Press Association)

NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING

(Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 7

Great improvement is attached to marketing negotiations now proceeding in London between Mr Fenton (Australian Minister of Customs) and Mr Snowden (Chancellor of the 'Exchequer). The basis of tlie plan is Government control. The fact that Labour Governments are in power in England and Australia is regarded as a fine opportunity to apply some of the doctrines of the Labour movement for the public control of marketing. The aiin is to ensure higher prices for the Australian producer and lower prices for the British consumers, by reducing the number of middlemen «ind a sub/tai.vial decrease in handling costs. It is proposed that the British Governments should Establish wholesale and retail agencies to dispose of Dominion products of meat, fruit, butter and cheese.
