ACCIDENTAL DROWNING

HAWERA, Feb. 6
A verdic t of accidental drowning was returned by the Coroner, following the ei nil instances of the drowning of two Maori boys, aged 10, at Kaiporolienui on Thursday last, when a trough they were 'pining on in a creek capsized precipitating them into the water.

WAIROA, Feb. 6
Shortly alter 11 o’clock last night a tire gutted Grunt’s garage, .North Civile, destroying six ears. The Brigade did good work. A strong southerly gale was blowing. The insurances on the building and contents total £Bou. The cause of the fire is that a gauge acetylene cylinder hurst while tlie proprietor was-'working.
CENTENARY EXHIBITION

“There is nothing like getting in early. In ten years’ time the centenary of New Zealand will be celebrated, and so that nobody will jump our claim. I am going to move that a Centenial Exhibition on a large scale be held in Wellington in 1940,” remarked Mayor Troup at the City Council., “It is a long way off,” added the Mayor, “but it is just as well to let Hie rest of New Zealand know our intentions now.”

Christopher Troves, 64, single, was found hanging in a shed on the property of Charles Todd at Tinwald this morning.
SUDDEN DEATH
AUCKLAND, February 6
At the inquest of a man who died suddenly in an hotel yesterday, an army pay book was produced with the name, of Lieut. John F. Walker No. 10/2359, aged 41. He was said* to be born in England and caxne to New Zealand in 1909. • .
. The inquest was adjourned for a post mortem.
CHARGE DISMISSED
AUCKLAND, February. 6
After evidence was given against John Albert Roberts of Whangavei, on three charges of obtaining credit by fraud, Judge Herdman directed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty saying the accused did get credit, but the evidence showed tliat he afterwards paid the debts
AERO CLUB REMIT
BLENHEIM, February 6,
Auckland Aero Club has forwarded a remit for consideration at the Aero Clubs conference to be held at Blenheim on February 21st to the effect that in all flights over a stretch of water, pilots -and passengers be required to wear lifebelts.
ELEANOR BOLLING RETURNING DUNEDIN, Feb. 6.
“Have been unable to get in touch with Awania since Feb. Ist.” . states Capt. Brown in a radio message received by the local agents. The message adds that in compliance with Byrd’s orders the ship is returning to Dunedin, and is due on Sunday night.;
COAIMITTED FOR SENTENCE. PALMERSTON X., Feb. 6. David Davies pleaded guilty' in the Magistrate’s Court to breaking, entering and theft at Bulls,and Palmerston North. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
