The Premier announces that lie lias been in communication with the Manager of the Union Company regarding the steamer to take the place of the Manuka, on the Bluff-Melbourne service, the General Manager advised that he (Was in cable communication and was: doing all in his power to procure a suitable steamer. HEAVY DAMAGES CLAIM. WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. A claim of £2644 damages arsing out of a motor accident in which Arthur Lyons, aged eight years, was knocked down on the Main North Road near Tawa Flat, was made before the Chief ’Justice against the Highways Company, by whom the driver was employed. The injuries, as stated,, included—to arm, by shock, and to brain. The claim is £2,500 general,; and £164 special. The case is pro-1 feeding.

MOTORIST FINED

ELTHAM, February 4

0. E. Clout, a butcher, of ' New Plymouth, was fined .two pounds and his license was cancelled for six months for negligent driving, causing a collision between his car and a motor cycle on November 23, at the junction on the Main Road. Previously defendant was fined for being drunk while in charge of a car. His license was cancelled for a year.
