A MINISTER’S DILEMMA

COST OF SCRAPPING UNIFORMS

(Australian Press Association)

(Received this day at 12.25. p.m.) ADELAIDE, ,February 4.

A delay in granting approval for new Militia informs is causing comment. It is pointed out that the Minister of Defence faces a quandary. The issue of new uniforms will mean scrapping the others which cost £248,000 and if the Governments objective of 35,000 enlistments is reached the cost of clothing for them will he £210,000. Thus the saving of £150,000 on camps this year will be offset by the cost of new uniforms and the scrapping of the old, totalling £458,000.
