THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
INDUSTRIOUS GERMANY. “In German}-,” a recent visitor said. “I. was very much impressed with things. All the English firms that have been doing business on the Continent have been very much impressed with Germany and her people, particularly in the straight-forward dealings of the exporters. They are a most industrious people and I would say the most, courteous people we met; and we went through six countries. I met many business people in Hamburg and Berlin and was surprised to find that there was no> antipathy to the English. They are very keen to build up their export trade and are naturally looking for new fields. They are greatly hampered, however, by heavy taxation. The unemployed are only about half the number that there are in England. Everyone gets down to work there and not only for their eight hours a day. They are trying to help their country out of her difficulties.
