COMMENTS ON THE TEAM. , (Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, Jan. 31. The press of Australia is still.asking why Ryder has been omitted from the Australian team, and at the same time, applauds the appointment of Woodfull as catain. Ryder, in an interview at Brisbane, said that lie would not comment on his exclusion from the team. He simply wished the team good luck on the tour. Ryder would not confirm or deny that he had received an offer from the English newspapers to write conir ments on the games in England.
LONDON, Jan. 81. Colonel Trevor, in the “Daily Telegraph,” says: There is every reason to believe that the six best batsmen in the team will rank as the best rungetters Australia ever produced. The howling, however, is not deadly. I shall be surprised if Grimmett does not do as well as anyone. The Daily Chronicle regards Woodfull as a good choice as captain, for his suitability for English wickets. The Times says: The team is a wonderfully strong batting side, and is efficient in fielding, but is somewhat doubtful in bowling. There is nothing to suggest invincibility, or to cause any extra heart beats among Englishmen. WEST INDIES TEAM. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 31, TlieJ Australian Board of Cricket Control is making arrangements .for the visit of a West Indies team next season.
