MAWSON MEETS' NORWEGIA
(All Rights Reserved)
(Received this day at 9.40 a.in.) CANBERRA, Jan. 29.
A wireless from Sir Douglas Mawson states on January 14th. while we were following the pack ed“e westerly in iiiichaitered waters there dramatically appeared on the ice margin ahead a steamer travelling towards us. It was the Norwegian ship, Norwegia. Flags wore dipped and there came on board the famous explorer, Capt. Larsen. An hour was spent in exchanging a rough routine of the respective programmes. Coal is. piled high on the decks of the Norwegia, and she is so deeply laden and hampered by the carriage on deck of two large aeroplanes, that a very anxious time is ahead of her, should a gale intervene.
, POSITION OF PARTY. (By Russell Owen—Copyrighted 1929 by the New York Times Company, and St. Louis Post Dispatch. All rights for publication reserved throughout the world. Wireless to New Y’ork Times.) (Received this dav at 9.40 a.m.) BAY OF WHALES, Jan. 27. Just a year ago to-day, the Eleanor Bolling reached the Bay of Whales. This year she is at the outer edge of the pack, 650 miles away, with a solid field of ice stretching in a great arc separating us. As for the men in Little America, they are doing what can he done in preparation for leaving, though ns yet they have no more idea than the man in the moon how they are going to get out, or when. A. whaler is also lying beyond the pack. Both the City of New York and Bolling brought supplies south for the party. These are being unloaded.
