NEW RECORDS. (Australian Press Association) MELBORUNE, January 26. The Australian athletic championship meeting was held in fair weather. J. Carlton (St. Joseph’s College, Sydney) Avon the 100yds and he equalled the world's best time in his heat. Dr Peltzer, the German champion, was only able to get third in the mile run. The winner Avas Whyte. He made a neAv Australian record. Lermond avus unplaced. Dr. Peltzer explains that he was feeling the effects of rheumatism. Results:—

The Athletic Conference decided that Australia will not be represented at the Empire Games in August next at Hamilton, Ontario. The State organisations will be permitted to send men if they so desire and the quality is available. It was felt Australia should .concentrate: on getting the best material for the next Olympic Games at Los Angeles in 1932. It is understood Lermond hopes to arrapge a visit by George Golding, the Australian oraok quSrter-miler, to tour Europe, MELBOURNE, Jan. 27,

The three mile raoe was won by C, R, Hyde, of Victoria. Jerican Lermond competed, but gave up after two miles, Hyde’s time, 14min. 3 3-ssecs, was an Australian record. Victoria won the Richard Coombes Shield and title of champion State of the Commonwealth, gaining the highest aggregate points at the meeting.
